The Des Moines Area Food Bank is proud to bring together all the participants of the Seattle Food & Wine Festival. In doing so they hope to educate and enlighten about the crucial need in our own back yard for constant support and donations to those less fortunate or who have fallen on difficult times. The Des Moines Area Food Bank is an emergency feeding program serving food to families and individuals in need in Des Moines, most of SeaTac and the west hill of Kent. 

QUICK FACTS:

• Began operation in 1966
• Serves over 850 families per month 
• Clients receive approximately 10 days worth of food, including government commodities 
• We serve baby food, formula and diapers for families with infants
• Deliveries to home-bound clients
• During Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, the food bank offers a second visit for clients to take home additional food for the holiday meals. 
• We offer monthly cooking classes and weekly food demonstrations
• In 2006, 2491 different families (representing 8,333 different individuals) made 10,442 visits to our food bank. 
• Food distributed exceeded 1,300,600 pounds, valued at over $1,500,000. 
• The food bank represents a $2 million annual business run on just over $200,000.

BACKPACK PROGRAM:

• Backpacks filled with 6 kid-friendly meals are delivered to the schools
• We are serving over 150 backpacks per weekend through 2 local elementary schools

There are two ways to help support the Des Moines Area Food Bank as you attend the Seattle Food & Wine Festival!

Wine and Beer Sales
Located in the middle of the Festival the Des Moines Area Food Bank will operate a retail store where Festival attendees can purchase closed bottles of wine and beer. All profits from these sales will go directly back to the Food Bank to help for the purchase of food to get them through the busy holiday season. Check back soon as we will be providing you with an 'Advance Order Sheet' that will tell you what wines will be featured at the Festival.

Because the Des Moines Area Food Bank is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations 30% of your purchase price is tax-deductible!

The Des Moines Area Food Bank will also accept direct donations of food and cash. Cash donations not associated with a wine or beer purchase are 100% tax-deductible. Look for donation stations throughout the festival.
